Critiquing Nonprofits and other demobilizing risks

This workshop asks groups to interrogate how the nonprofit-industrial complex functions by examining the various complex relationships shaped through nonprofit work that exercise control over emergent social movements. With that, groups look to how state and financial technologies work to limit the radical potential of leftist social movements by narrowing their priorities and scope of possibilities (movement capture). Participants connect foundational insights produced by INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence and Megan Ming Francis on this topic with a collaborative, participatory exercise investigating sample nonprofits and brainstorming social movement interventions beyond nonprofit work as a way of bridging theory and practice.
