Geofuturism

Learning to let go and love other worlds. This module asks groups to engage in speculative eco-futurism as a way to diagnose the deeply interwoven relationships between ecocidal processes (burning fossil fuels, waste making, etc.) and the socio-cultural rhythms that pattern these processes into a seemingly normal, desirable, and unquestionably “right” mode of living.

(Learning to Let Go and Love Other Worlds)

This module asks groups to engage in speculative eco-futurism as a way to diagnose the deeply interwoven relationships between ecocidal processes (burning fossil fuels, waste making, etc.) and the socio-cultural rhythms that pattern these processes into a seemingly normal, desirable, and unquestionably “right” mode of living. Each group identifies a single aspect of modern sociotechnical life (refrigerators, cell phones, cars, plastic wrap, etc.) and then attempts to imagine a possible world in which the elimination of this specific socio-technical system results in a form of abundant life that is far less environmentally destructive.
